Spectral Beam Combining

Spectral Beam Combining

Spectral beam combining (SBC) is an incoherent method for combining multiple fiber laser channels into a single high-power output beam. Unlike coherent beam combining, SBC does not require phase stabilization, enabling a potentially simpler system architecture. Each fiber laser channel operates at a slightly different wavelength, allowing them to be combined using wavelength-selective optics such as gratings or dichroic mirrors.

A common SBC architecture employs a linear fiber array paired with a collimation stage and a spectrally dispersive element that overlays the spatially separated channels into a single combined beam. This approach has demonstrated remarkable scalability – systems with more than 30 combined channels have been implemented while maintaining high beam quality. While the performance of each individual laser is important, the precision of the fiber array is critical. Even small deviations in fiber position or pointing angle directly impact the quality of the combined beam, making high-accuracy fiber-array manufacturing essential.

FiberBridge Photonics provides cutting-edge SBC solutions, including high-precision linear fiber arrays and fully integrated spectral beam combining systems. Our vertically integrated manufacturing approach gives us complete control over every production step, enabling unmatched accuracy, reliability and customization. We tailor our solutions to the specific requirements of each customer and application.
